Training package/module – foreign interference, espionage, cultivation and exploitation by foreign powers

Hi Members,

Following the implementation of PSPF Direction 003-2025 (Online Disclosure of Security Clearance and National Security Information), the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority is seeking advice from agencies who have either sourced a training package that encompasses ‘foreign interference, espionage, cultivation and exploitation by foreign powers’, alternatively, any content sourced for training packages that your agency has used to develop your own training module, in order to meet the new Direction.

APs Academy – MasterCraft series – Stewardship and systems change – an anniversary of APS stewardship

The APS Academy presents in December, to all public servants, a MasterCraft Series event on Stewardship and systems change – an anniversary of APS stewardship.

MasterCraft Series events are a series of live discussions aimed at highlighting contemporary practices, discussing up to date and emerging issues and challenges, and providing a platform to promote real world successes from across the APS.

This event invites you to rethink your own understanding of stewardship through the lenses of other’s perspectives and have the opportunity to reflect and design your own stewardship actions for the coming year.

This event features a panel discussion with Dr Rachel Bacon, Deputy Commissioner Integrity, Reform and Enabling Services at the Australian Public Service Commission; Tom Orlovic, Director Strategy, Policy and Development at the Australian Taxation Office; and Freya Simonsen, a generalist graduate at the Australian Public Service Commission. This celebration of stewardship will inspire you through storytelling and the sharing of live examples from leaders at all levels through this panel discussion.

This event is free to participants and open to all Australian public servants around Australia.

Register for this discussion to reflect on what stewardship means for all public servants.

MasterCraft series – APS Integrity Hypotheticals: Insider threat

The highly successful APS Integrity hypothetical series returns, brought to you by the Department of Industry, Science and Resources (DISR) – Integrity Branch in collaboration with the APS Academy.

Facilitated by Rodney Lee Walsh, this 1-hour session will challenge a panel of senior executives with hypothetical scenarios designed to test their integrity. Learn about the risks posed by insider threats and how to identify and manage potential integrity challenges they raise.

Insider threats arise from trusted insiders, a current or former employee or contractor who has legitimate or indirect access to the people, information, techniques, activities, technology, assets and facilities of a workplace. An Insider threat is the potential for an insider to intentionally or unintentionally use their access to conduct activities that could cause harm to or negatively affect a workplace. Types of insider threat include espionage, sabotage, violence, fraud and theft.

Note: ACT based DISR staff will be able to attend this event in person, with the rest of the APS able to attend online.

Build Your Edge: Strengthening APS management capability- October 2025

The APS Academy is developing a new learning initiative – Management Edge – designed to build the management capability of team leaders (APS 6 to EL1) across the Australian Public Service. Building on the success of Leadership Edge, this program will support managers to strengthen their APS craft in people management, business management and core public administration – the essential foundations for effective leadership in the APS. Delivered through the Academy’s cohort-based social learning model, participants will learn from peers and experienced practitioners across the Service, applying insights directly to their day-to-day work. We’re now inviting APS agencies to nominate team leaders to test components of the new program through ‘Build Your Edge’, a hands-on opportunity to shape the development of Management Edge. If your agency would like to be part of this exciting next step in developing great managers for the APS, contact the APS Academy team at edge@apsc.gov.au
